Exactly four weeks after we entered Peru, we left for Ecuador. Our time in Peru was amazing. There is so much to see and do that we are certain we will be back one day. Our last three stops were Lima, Trujillo, and Los Organos. We spent three nights in Lima, and enjoyed the nicer neighborhoods of the capital city. On Valentine´s day we went out to a nice dinner and then strolled around Lima´s ¨Magical¨ fountain park. Lima is known as the culinary capital of South America, and we found the food to be excellent. We ate fantastic sushi, ceviche, and tried a local specialty called anticucho, which is cow hearts on a skewer. For our first two nights we stayed with Couchsurfing hosts in an amazing apartment, but we ended up leaving for a hostel after a laundry disaster soured the host-guest relationship.
Our next stop was Trujillo, where we stayed only one night. We did some more Couchsurfing with mixed results. In Trujillo, we visited the famous Chan Chan Pre-Incan ruins, but by this point I was a bit tired of touring and only half paid attention. I think Jen got more out of the visit. After our short stop, we headed further north to Los Organos, a small beach town known as a major-league surf spot. My plans to learn surfing on small waves were thwarted, as the swell consistently rendered one meter plus waves. Nevertheless, Jen and I enjoyed three relaxed days on the beach, leaving happy and sunburned.
Now we are down to about a week left on our South American journey. We will be seeing the cities of Cuenca and Quito, Ecuador and then heading back to the good old US of A! The comforts of our home country have us eager to get back and recover. In the meantime, enjoy some of the pictures we took during our last stretch in Peru:
